Glynis Candler

Glynis Candler has never formally studied art and approaches her work with a
freshness which is unencumbered by the baggage of contemporary arts theory.
Her work poignantly explores the brevity of human existence, the traces of our lives
and the fate of the possessions we hold so dear. Her subject matter is as diverse as
the content of skips, to meditation on the remembrance of those lost in war. She
works with photography, text and found materials to create books of elegance and
deep emotional feeling. Underpinning all her work is an implied narrative structure
that is universal in content, yet deeply personal and individual. With her sharp eye
and poetic sensibility, she is a keen observer of the human condition and sees the
potential in many things others would overlook. !

Her work has been selected for the Sheffield International Artists Book Prize and is
held in many important public collections including the Tate, University of Cork,
National Irish Visual Arts Library (NIVAL) and Winchester School of Art. !
